Ian Kingham

Ian studied Food Technology at the University of Western Sydney, majoring in brewing, and has completed the Foundation Certificate with the International Brewer’s and Distillers Association as well as certificates in Retail Studies at Monash University and Business Management at Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

Ian has worked in sales for Carlton & United Brewery, as a Key Account Manager for Diageo and in various procurement roles in Woolworths including a stint as the largest beer buyer in Australia. Prior to the Institute of Beer he was the Category Lead for Beer & Cider in Woolworths.

Ian is well known for his contributions as a writer with Beer & Brewer Magazine, since its inception, and today as consulting editor. Ian is the beer editor for Drinks Magazine Australia. Contributions in writing also include submissions to The Supreme Court of Australia, Liquorwatch and Choice Magazines, as well as The Critic’s Choice and The Australian Cider Guide.

Ian is the editor of The Australian and New Zealand Beer Buyer’s Guide, Explore Beer and is currently working on his third book Explore Cider.

Judging credentials span cider and beer and include product and packaging. He has been a regular judge in New Zealand and Australia and was Chief Judge at the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales Beer & Cider Awards in 2013.

Ian has been a guest speaker for the Australian Beer Industry Awards, the Craft Brewing Industry Association, Lion Nathan, Coca Cola Amatil, The Beer & Beef Club and many more. He exudes passion for his subject and has hosted many beer dinners and events.
